St Augustine Nights of Lights 2024

Initially we were not going to take Sonas down to St Augustine for this year’s Nights of Lights as we had been every year for that last seven or eight. We then decided, since we had not taken the boat out for a while and the day time temperatures would be in the low 70s, why the heck not!

So we headed out of the Queen’s Harbour Lagoon late morning on Sunday December 8th on a flat calm day. The trip south was uneventful, with surprisingly very little boat traffic. We made the Bridge of Lions ten minutes before the 1:00pm opening calling the St Augustine Municipal Marina to find out what side tie w had for our slip. Once through the bridge we took our turn entering the marina and successfully backed into our slip.

We had a table booked at The Old City House, which we pretty much visit every time we are in St Augustine. This is a small restaurant on Cordova Street behind the Casa Monica Hotel, but the food and service has always been excellent and we highly recommend it.

On the way back we called into some of the art galleries along King Street. We have bought some things here a few times but nothing took our fancy this time – though we did see some really nice bronze turtles that we thought about for a few minutes!

The next day we walked into town and had coffee and bagels at the Starbucks inside the Casa Monica. Later in the day we strolled up George Street. We did poke our heads into the fudge shop but the line was quite long so we walked further along and had an ice cream instead!

On Monday we had a table reserved at the Cordova, the main restaurant at the Casa Monica. We had only eaten there once before, 17 years ago for Paul’s 50th birthday. Again the food and service were very good, the only complaint was that the tables for two were positioned extremely close together. We stopped by the art gallery again and looked at the turtles. We were tempted but decided against in the end!

We headed back home on Tuesday, and were tied up and sitting with a cup of tea by 3pm.
