We had planned to anchor off Cumberland Island during the July 4th weekend after a couple of nights at Fernandina Marina. However the “feels like” temperatures in the area were well over 100 degrees, meaning we would have had steamy walks on the island plus had to run the generator all day and stay inside the boat. Also Sian had tweaked her back a little so we opted to bring Sonas back to home dock.
Fast forward to Sunday July 28th and the temperatures had eased off a little so we provisioned for four days and cruised via the AICW up to Cumberland Island.
We had a very enjoyable three nights four days, in fact the temperatures really eased off where we had the boat open in pleasant breezes during the day and evenings, only running the AC during sleeping hours.
We walked the island, meeting a few campers, seeing lots of deer and wild horses. We had two sub come through the inlet with their many escorts and head for the base at Kings Bay.
On Wednesday we headed over to Port Consolidated and put in 500 gallons of fuel while talking to Bob, the very friendly dock master. Fuel was 3:20 a gallon cash/check and if you sign an affidavit that you are leaving Florida they do not charge you sales tax!
We then went out the St Mary’s Inlet and cruised back to home dock on the outside, with seas less that 2 feet.
Some photos of the short cruise.
